One Year on the Road

I rode my bike down to Saturday Market.

It&#039;s a Saturday Market tradition.

The farmer&#039;s market is my favorite section.

Mushroom picking is popular in Oregon.

Lobster mushrooms.

Cranberries from a Bandon bog.

Fresh bread.

Radish.

Beets.

Cabbage.

Apples.

A patient shopper.

Such beautiful bounty.

Multi-colored carrots.

All sorts of pumpkins.

The more traditional pumpkins.

I never tried sunchokes.

You just feel healthy looking at it.

I love the fresh roasted peppers.

I couldn&#039;t pass by this guy.

Gotta love this guy&#039;s creativity.

It was a gorgeous day.

Saturday afternoon, I met friends for a walk at Buford park.

It&#039;s at the base of Mount Pisgah.

I&#039;ve been walking there with friends for years.

Bailey loves getting to play with her friends.

On the 12th, for my birthday, I hiked to the top of Mount Pisgah.

It offers a 360 degree viewpoint.

On Sunday, Kate and I took a country drive.

Round barn.

We&#039;d heard salmon were spawning near Triangle Lake.

They were fighting their way up this river.

After all the rain we&#039;d had, the current was tremendous.

We took stairs down to the waterfall.

Just over two months ago, Kate and I had come here to swim.

I had crawled behind this waterfall.

Here&#039;s that same waterfall now. Can you see the fish?

Salmon were desperately trying to leap up the falls.

But they just kept getting battered.

There was a fish ladder to make it easier.

But instinct kept the pushing up the falls.

There were just a few others there watching.

The photographer I&#039;d met at Saturday Market was set up on the fish ladder.

I sat down next to him.

He gave me some pointers.

The males grow a hooked nose during spawning season.

This one is a female.

We stayed a long time, watching fish after fish fly up out of the water.

It&#039;s so different here in the fall.

This was a baby wading pool then.

Graffiti in nature.

No littering.

Upstream, a few exhausted, battered salmon rest a while.

They still have miles to go.

I love Oregon in the fall.

The fall leaves were a bit past their prime.

But the wet day brought out the richness of color.

And green moss everywhere.

Back up the stairway.

What an amazing thing to have seen.
