We returned to St. Louis for the third time to visit friends before heading west.

Me and my old pal, Sooze.

We were back in her driveway for a few days.

The pets were happy to spend time in the yard again.

And in the house.

We let Sooze put us to work.

Gypsy made herself right at home.

She helped with the packing.

And watched us pack up Sooze's daughter's room.

Sooze took this photo the last time she saw Gypsy.

We had lunch with Werner, my mom's old friend.

Werner bought this house in the 70s for $4,000.

Back then, almost all the houses on the block were boarded up.

So many neighborhoods in St. Louis have fallen into complete disrepair.

Some abandoned, some still lived in.

Werner took a chance back then and went to work.

His house was just off Lafayette Square, which had once been so stately.

At that time, these houses had also been neglected or abandoned.

It was considered a bad neighborhood.

And people who could afford it fled to the suburbs.

But Werner joined the Lafayette Square Restoration Committee.

And the neighborhood eventually came back strong.

This is the park in the middle of the square.

This church is now condos!

Meanwhile, other St. Louis neighborhoods look like war zones.

There's a real divide.

Werner also bought this in the 70s, the oldest house in St. Louis.

He and his partners turned it int a dinner theater venue.

But it is barely hanging on now.

Werner took us to Crown Candy for lunch.

We'd gone here with Mom years before.

It's been a popular candy store, ice cream parlor, and restaurant for decades.

It's still so popular, we had to stand in line for a table.

Not much has changed for a while.

This BLT is an instant heart attack!

This neighborhood has also made an effort to revitalize.

So good to see Werner again.

When we left Werner, we wanted to go see the arch.

But the grounds were all under construction.

Old capitol reflected in a glass building.

One night we had dinner with friends, Mark and Jeff.

We had a wonderful evening with them.

I had to go by my mom's old house.
