One Year on the Road

An Amish buggy near the border.

Crossing the bridge into Canada.

A wetlands preserve on the Canada side.

And a view of the locks.

We saw so many signs, but no real moose.

Our campsite at Pancake Bay.

We were near the dog beach.

It was so hot, lots of people were on the water.

Bailey and a friend fetch balls.

Bailey&#039;s friend was a labradoodle.

Bailey loved the sandy beach for digging.

A kayaker in the low sun.

When we got the canoe out, Bailey climbed in before we could even blow it up.

Bailey has to wait for the boat to be inflated.

Off we go!

We love this little bugger!

Me and Gypsy.

Gypsy likes to be outside.

She was so hot, we gave her a quick dip.

Then I took a dip.

After lunch, we hung out at the beach.

Which is cuter, I&#039;m not sure.

A glorious warm sunny day at the beach.

My camera case is a perfect hideaway.

And Kate, too.

I paddled about in the canoe.

Nothing better!

We drove a few miles to Agawa Bay to see ancient pictographs.

But between this sign...

...and the tricky steep path, Kate decided to stay in the car with the fur kids.

This steep walled walkway was created by an earthquake.

But then the path came to this.

And this.

Rocky island.

House on an island.

The pictographs were on the lake side of this.

I walked out a ways but didn&#039;t see them.

My Keens were slippery and I decided not to risk it.

Here&#039;s a photo in the gift shop of what I missed.

These three artists traveled by boxcar and rail bike in 1918 and 1922 to paint Ontario wilderness.

There&#039;s a great museum at the Lake Superior Visitor Center next to our campground.

Dogs are allowed only at the far end of the campground beach.

We took both the fur kids.

While Bailey fetched her ball in the lake...

...and dug in the sand and ran...

...Gypsy discovered sand.

At first she stayed pretty close to Kate.

What a giant world it is!

You never know what creatures could pop out at you.

Sometimes a shoulder is safest.

Or big hands to hold you.

Gypsy gives Kate&#039;s face a grateful pat.

But Gypsy sees that Bailey&#039;s not afraid.

She&#039;s having a lot of fun, in fact.

Suddenly Gypsy takes off at a trot.

She wants to play like a dog.

Bailey&#039;s got both a ball and a stick.

Maybe she&#039;d share one of them.

Gypsy liked to run back and forth between us.

To have this incredible beach to ourselves was wonderful.

We hung out for a long time in the warm sun.

Sometimes she would stalk Bailey.

She&#039;s such a brave little thing.

When she&#039;s hungry, she lets you know.

Thank goodness for bottles.

One last swim before heading back to camp.

It looked like a drab sunset that night.

Then some color appeared on the horizon.

And the sun slipped through the clouds.

The sun was so red, so huge.

It reminded me of an African sun.

It sun in a soft glow of color.
