A day trip into Mendocino…

On the drive to and from Mendocino, we saw some interesting sights.

Underneath, gnarled green branches.

How does someone even reach to the top to do this?

A Victorian house on a cliff.

An old barn by the road.

Herringbone pattern in the doors.

Another sweet barn.

Eucalyptus tree.

And there are many more shops.

I never did hear the story behind this steeple sculpture.

This interesting artisan shop takes raw wood burl...

And turns it into furniture/art.

Many of the buildings have been restored, however.

Fire station has a fresh coat of paint.

The locals still have a strong sense of community.

A seagull kite flying in the wind.

The only thing that's changed at Dick's Bar is the color of the door.

The bookstore is still there.

Interesting home.

In 1976, I just drove my van out onto the headlands and camped.

Not allowed anymore.

Mendocino architecture hasn't changed much since I first saw it in 1976.

It's such a laid back little town, even with the tourists.

The weathered fences are Mendocino classic.

Here's the one place we might be able to afford.

Chinese church?

Weathered sheds.

Too bad this place was closed. It looks great.

Mendocino is known for its wooden water towers.

They are functional and necessary still.

Kate and I have been here several times and loveit.

Around since 1887.

Lots of ravens and crows here.

Even with tourists, the place is peaceful and serene.

The long, windy drive to Mendocino is probably what has preserved its dignity.

Wait a minute... are those really zebras?
