In Duluth, Minnesota, we took a tour of this luxurious mansion from the early 1900s.

Our tour was self-guided, but a guide walked us up to the house.

Impressive entrance.

Built in 1905.

The window let servants peer through to the dining room.

The breakfast room was also an atrium.

The free-flowing "spring" kept the air moist for plants.

Beautiful stained glass.

The butler's pantry.

Wonderful deep sinks with drains that emptied water from the top.

Hot water pipes kept food warm here.

Communication center with bell alerts and intercom.

Kate was most impressed with the laundry room, which not only had a large sheet press...

... but a furnace-heated clothes dryer.

I don't believe these Congdons were related to the pear growers.

The oldest daughter's room.

This room was originally the middle daughter Helen's room.

The only room decorated in Art Nouveau style, in Vassar colors.

Later, the youngest daughter, Elizabeth, moved into the room.

She was murdered here in this bed by her adopted daughter's husband.

The last family gardener lived here for over 80 years.

Beautiful accomodations for horses.

As well as a mercury rectifier for charging one of the first electric cars.
