My friend, Angelica, and I went up to my old hometown early on a rainy Sunday morning to take photos.

Angelica packs our cameras in plastic bag "raincoats."

The only intersection in Brookdale, population 200.

No mail delivery in Brookdale. You have to pick it up here.

The Brookdale Lodge once made Brookdale famous.

It's closed now.

I had to climb on a guard rail to see over the chain link fence.

Faces in a wall.

Built in the 1930's, the restaurant was famous for the creek running through it.

I can only imagine what this creek is doing to that restaurant now.

The two of us, ready to tackle Brookdale in the rain.

It was raining so hard, there were waterfalls on the side of the road.

First, we walked up Clear Creek Road.

I'd forgotten how tall those redwoods were.

Posing with a trash can treasure.

This is normally a babbling brook.

Just us and the trees.

Private property sign, but we keep going.

Beautiful greenhouse.

Whoever lives here is very creative.

Angelica tags the "Keep Out: Beware of Dog" signs and checks this road off.

And back down we go.

At last, we head up my old street, Alta Via.

The rain poured down the road in sheets.

Typical Brookdale construction, never permitted.

Old shed doors.

I love shooting with Angelica. She sees things I don't.

But I found this madrone trunk.

There it is... my old cabin.

This was my home for eight years.

Back then there were no stairs, just a tricky path.

I loved this cabin.

The first five years, my room was a curtained off sun room.

When Kate moved in, we got the bedroom.

Me, pregnant, packing my baby bag. That was one full room.

Walking further up Alta Via, we saw this cool new fence.

Beautifully done.

Unlike the chain link and razor wire.

This old truck has been there a while.

After Alta Via, we walked to the end of Pacific.

This was the neighborhood swimming hole, flooded now.

Back at Angelicas, dry clothes, soup, and time to rest.
