One Year on the Road

We saw our first glimpse of fall color in the Adirondacks.

The first night, we were lucky to get a site not on the lake.

At the ranger&#039;s recommendation, we drove to Long Lake for dinner.

On Fridays only, they have the biggest, best lobster rolls.

The next day was sunny.

The lake was so blue.

And trees just turning.

We moved to a new spot overlooking the lake.

It was an obscured view, but pretty.

The river was low.

The swimming beach was empty.

We stopped by the Moose Festival in Indian Lake.

There really wasn&#039;t a whole lot to it.

We went to the Adirondack Museum.

And beautiful grounds.

The rich and famous arrived in their own train cars.

This one is all original.

Others arrived by stage coach.

Once there, there were lots of buggies for transportation.

A wagon to transport canoes.

Sleighs for winter. Here&#039;s a milk sled.

They are all so intricately carved and perfectly to scale.

The grandfather clock is decorated with birch and sticks.

It&#039;s traditional Adirondack style.

This stuffed bobcat reminded us of Gypsy in attack mode.

Some cabins are set up for kids to play in.

This one&#039;s set up for serving dinner.

Kids these days don&#039;t remember blackboards.

Even outdoor shelters are elaborately decorated with branches and twigs.

This hunting cabin from the 70s was donated by a family.

It was taken apart piece by piece and rebuilt here.

Other cabins were much fancier.

Fancy china and all.

The bedrooms were basic, though.

This is Blue Mountain Lake.

It was a perfect warm fall day to walk all around the museum grounds.

Back at the campsite, Gypsy and Bailey were happy to see us.

We took them for another long walk.

I played Banagrams with a little help from my friend.

She&#039;s taken to shoulders lately.

But her favorite is Kate&#039;s chest.

Lots of room to stretch out there.

We left the next day, but drove through such beautiful areas.

We stopped at this interesting store.

Indians and stuffed bears seem to be a theme.

Kate loved this hanging chair.

This sweet church was next door.

We were welcomed inside, where a few parishoners were meeting.
