One Year on the Road

Two women, their golden retriever, and an orphaned kitten hit the road in an RV for one year of "pretirement"

On Kate’s birthday (August 10th), we drove to a lake where her grandparents had a house when she was a kid.

We drove along the shore trying to figure out where Kate's grandparents' house was.

It's a sweet neighborhood of houses.

All with private docks.

And a little grassy strip for chairs and fire pits.

We saw lots of cute houses.

Maybe it had been remodeled.

We stopped and talked to this guy playing with his kids.

He remembered Kate's grandma! He pointed to the house. We hoped it was the one on the left.

Unfortunately, it was the run-down one on the right.

And their larger house on the hill above had been razed.

Down the road was a fun place Kate and her brother liked to go.

Sadly, it was also run-down and closed.

You could see that at one time, it was a happening place.

A place to kick up your heels.

And have a drink.

But not so much any more.
