A brief but satisfying stopover at Mesa Verde National Park.

We got a no hook-ups site with a view.

It was a very nice, quiet campground.

Wild horses on a hillside.

We drove to Spruce Tree House by the museum.

It was just about to close. so we couldn't go down to it.

We drove to another lookout to see this village being restored.

The circular structures are kivas.

One more cliff village.

This "Sun Temple" was never completed.

There are no doors going into the structure.

Just windows, and walls within.

Built-in bird bath?

And downspouts for drainage.

This structure was part of a large mesa-top farming community.

This was the community kiva.

Notice the spiral carved into the brick.

In the museum, a diarama of village life.

So interesting to imagine how these people lived centuries ago.

The next morning we went back to the Spruce Tree House.

These were actually my photos. I forgot to switch back to my watermark after Kate’s Antelope Canyon photo album. 🙂
