One Year on the Road

Steam trains run from Durango up to Silverton and back several times a day.

In 2011, my sister, brother and I stayed in this classic hotel downtown.&#039;

The Strater was built in 1877.

It has been renovated many times over the years.

But much of the original decor and style is still in place.of the original decor and style is still in place.

Our accommodations were more moderate this time.

But the view of the horse ring offered us hours of entertainment.

We were right next to the city&#039;s main bike/walking path.

The train tracks run right along the river, so we&#039;d hear it and see puffs of steeam.

But when they pull a second man out, I realized it was probably training.

I watched this rescue team up rivier pull a man out of the freezing river.

This horse whinnied and pawed the ground when its pal went into the ring without him.

Downtown Durango is very quaint.
